I finally got to try on a new 42 mm wave dial seamaster. I really liked it but prefer the older model with smooth dial which I've found online ( ref # 212.30.41.20.03.001 ). Aside from the dial, is there any difference in how they feel on the wrist?
Although it’s a functional dive watch, the no wave glossy dial gives the watch a dressier appearance so it pairs well with everything from jeans to a tux. Compared to the current model, it's smaller, thinner, has an applied logo and a solid case back with a beautiful hippocampus engraving. The no wave high gloss blue or black dial is stunning and gives the watch a dressier appearance than most divers. It's a beautiful watch and a great value. I’m of the opinion that this model is the 🐐 seamaster. The no wave makes it go with anything and the size of this one compared to its successor is just better. I think it’s 47mm lug to lug as compared to the 50mm on the current 42mm smp.
Both have the Bond-style wave pattern on the dial. Most of the dial is matte in its looks, except the tops of the "waves" show a glint of reflection when held at a certain angle to the light. While this is traditional for a dive watch, I actually prefer a more glossy dial. I personally have been critical of their wave pattern on their most recent seamaster. It isn't refined or subtle like in the original James bond model. The current wave pattern looks like a thumbprint smear on the crystal at certain angles. The Seamaster Diver 300m is one of OMEGA's most renowned OMEGA Seamaster diving watches.
