These watches had a digital LCD display and were accurate to 5 seconds per month. They had the typical 1970s quartz digital watch look. According to the Omega Museum, within the Alaska series of Speedmasters presented to NASA, in 1979 Omega created a new prototype the “Alaska IV” based on the Speedmaster Professional Quartz reference ST186.0004 with a calibre 1621 movement which used a system called the BETA light that consisted of two tritium tubes behind the LCD display . According to its manual, the full name is Omega Speedmaster QUARTZ LCD caliber 1620 (funny how they would still brag about the name ‘quartz’ putting it in capitals) and on the booklet it says ref. 39053000. After replacing the two batteries it runs like new!
